Fixing red eyes problem with GIMP
August 20th, 2006 by SmrtSkoso
Since I take a lot of photos and they don’t always look the best, I’ve decided that I’ll start learning GIMP to improve them.
It happens that in some of them, people have red eyes. So the first thing I had to learn was how to solve this problem. I’ve found out, that it is not all that hard to do, if you follow the steps in the Red Eye Removal tutorial. In short they are:
- Open the guilty photo
- Select the Dodge or Burn strokes tool
- Set the tool options (double click on the tool, if they are not shown):
- Brush: circle fuzzy
- Type: burn
- Mode: highlights
- Open the Channels dialog
- Deselect green and blue channel (by clicking on the name and not on the eye)
- Brush away the red colour from the eyes
